If I read an xfinity email on my phone I want it to show as "read" on my desktop.

On both devices, you need to have the account enabled in a mail app or client using the IMAP protocol. Most of them will auto-configure the account that way since Comcast email is IMAP compliant by default. If one of them is using POP3 it won't sync actions like you describe.
